Join Rabbi Chaim Brovender’s WebYeshiva.org Halacha Mastery Program on a journey to master an array of halachic issues, challenges, and questions an Orthodox Jew faces in his or her home and world in the 21st century.  As Rabbi Brovender writes in this letter to students, the Halacha Mastery Program hopes to reemphasize the importance of knowing halacha -how to recognize a question, how to access an answer.

The Halacha Mastery Program consists of six courses, three of which are mandatory and three of which can be chosen from a list of electives. All courses emphasize the practical halacha — know how act in the situations that arise; know how to answer your children when they ask. They also provide the literacy and knowledge of the underlying halachic concepts and principles that stand behind the halachic system and guide modern poskim in determining the law. Live courses will be given in real-time via WebYeshiva’s fully interactive, video-conferencing system, and each will meet once a week. Once a course has been taught live it will be available via the recorded archives. (Depending on the year or course, some may only be available through the archives.)

Guided source material will be distributed in advance, and it is expected that students will spend a certain amount of time preparing and reviewing between classes. Virtual e-chavruta with fellow students is encouraged. Each student will have access to private discussion, guidance, and review with the course instructor during the week. Students taking archive-only courses will have access to the instructor. Review exams will be given at the end of each semester to demonstrate mastery of the subject matter.

For most courses, Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Brovender will deliver a weekly tutorial and review session each week for each course. These sessions are optional but highly recommended for students to review, prepare and keep up with the material. It is also an excellent opportunity to interact with our Rosh Yeshiva, and discuss a variety of Torah topics.

For each class Rabbi Brovender will review the source packets (mekorot) uploaded by the teachers. Enrollment in either or both of Rabbi Brovender’s tutorial sesisons is complimentary, and included as part of your enrollment in the Halacha Mastery Program.

Students who cannot commit to take two courses a year, or who can’t participate online synchronously, can undertake a personal schedule of study via the archives, benefit from the same access to our outstanding faculty, and take the exams and complete the program at their own pace.

The program is meant for Jewish men and women with some background in learning Jewish texts; preparation and review is expected. Contact our office to discuss if the program is right for you.

Men who complete all Halacha Mastery Program requirements may apply to our Semicha program.
